[Q] Why can't I build Android 5.1 on 32-bit Linux? topic

I have read the requirments for building Android - http://source.android.com/source/building.html

Quote:

A 64-bit environment is required for Gingerbread (2.3.x) and newer versions, including the master branch. You can compile older versions on 32-bit systems.

I am trying to build a 5.1.1 ROM, will tweaking something work?
Or if it is not really available, can I transfer the whole synced repo to a 64-bit Linux? (I think it might break some symlinks)

I am using Ubuntu 14.04.
